NIDCOM Reacts To Latest Killing Of Nigerians In South Africa

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has frowned at the killing of two Nigerian traders in South Africa by gunmen, describing their death as intolerable and senseless, as she calls for the culprits to book.

Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement by NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun, stated that the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa was looking into the matter.

She recalled that the early caution mechanism established by both countries to stop such killings had yet to be implemented by South Africa.

The NiDCOM boss condoled with the families of the bereaved as she assured them that justice would be served.

According to available information, two Nigerians simply identified as Austin and Ayo were shot point-blank by masked gunmen in Durban, South Africa, after invading Austin’s office. The duo died on the spot.

Following tension rising among the Nigerian community in South Africa, Dabiri-Erewa called for calm and tasked Nigerians not to take the law into their hands as they await the outcome of the investigations by the South African police.

She further disclosed that the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa has asked for a thorough and fair investigation into the incident.
